NDIS supports and services
On 3 October 2024, the definition of NDIS support changed. Read our guide to the updated list of supports funded by the NDIS here.
The NDIS lists supports and services against these funding categories: Core Supports, Capacity Building, Capital Support.

Core Supports
Your Core Support budget is made up of supports that will help you go about your daily life while working towards your goals and objectives. Core Supports is generally your most flexible category of funding.
Within Core Supports, your funding is broken down into:
- Assistance with Daily Living – help around the house, in-home care, personal care
- Assistance with Social and Community Participation – getting involved in your community, social or recreational activities, workplace support.
Capacity Building
Your Capacity Building support budget is made up of supports that help you build your independence skills.
Capacity Building funding is broken down into these categories:
- Improved Daily Living
- Increased Social and Community Participation
- Improved Relationships
- Finding and Keeping a Job
- Improved Learning
Capital Supports
These supports include capital investments, such as:
- assistive technology
- equipment
- home modifications
- vehicle modifications
- Specialist Disability Accommodation.
Support categories on Hireup
On Hireup, we use categories that better represent your support needs. These categories are:
- Help around the house: cleaning, washing, cooking and other tasks around your home.
- In-home care: morning and evening routines, medical prompts, and meal preparation.
- Personal care: showering, toileting and mealtime assistance at home or in the community.
- Specialised care: complex personal requirements and support for high needs.
- Transport: help to get from A to B, using the support worker's car, your car or public transport.
- Out and about: support to get out of the house, take a class, exercise, volunteer or go to gatherings.
- Therapy support: plan, practice, and enjoy your therapy.
- Education and employment: coaching to help you achieve your goals at school, college or work.
Supports not funded by the NDIS
According to the NDIS website, your funding will not cover a support that:
- is unrelated to your disability
- is delivered under other funding from the NDIS
- is for daily living costs unrelated to your support needs
- might cause harm to you or others
- would be better delivered by other government and support systems.
