What is an NDIS-registered provider?
When researching new disability service providers, you may have noticed the term “NDIS-registered”, but what does a provider being registered with the NDIS mean, and what does that mean for the disability support you receive?
What is an NDIS-registered provider?
To be registered with the NDIS, a provider needs to meet certain standards and requirements outlined by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
This includes:
- requiring all support workers to complete the NDIS Worker Screening Check
- running incident monitoring
- regularly completing a quality audit with the NDIS
- making sure all workers comply with the NDIS Code of Conduct.
To maintain registration, the provider needs to show evidence that they are meeting these requirements every year.
Can I use a NDIS-registered provider?
All people seeking support can use an NDIS provider. Some groups, however, cannot use unregistered providers, depending on the type of funding they use.
One of the benefits of using a NDIS-registered provider is that you can use any type of disability funding to access their services:
- self managed
- plan managed
- NDIA managed
- independent funding.

The NDIS website runs the Provider finder tool, which allows you to find registered NDIS providers near you: NDIS Provider Finder.
