How To Request A Review Of Your NDIS Plan
Did you know that if your current NDIS plan doesn't meet your needs and goals, you can request for it to be reviewed? If eligible, you can have your plan reviewed within 60 days.
In this article, we will look at the most common reasons for a plan review and then find out how to request a review of your NDIS plan to ensure that you have the right support in place to support your needs and achieve your goals.
When can I request an early plan review?
There are many reasons a participant may want their NDIS plan reviewed, but generally, to be eligible for a review the reasoning must fall into one of these two categories:
- Your circumstances have changed, and you now require a different level of support than you have been funded for - for example, you moved out of your family home and no longer receive support from your parents, your informal carer is no longer able to support you, you received a new diagnosis and require additional support or perhaps your disability needs have changed over the course of your current plan
- You believe your allocated plan isn’t adequate to fund the support you need - for example, you believe that your allocated funding is not sufficient to support you, or you believe that the categories under which you received your funding are not suitable to support your needs and goals
If the reason you would like to change your plan falls into one of the two categories above, you can follow the below steps to file a request to have your plan reassessed. Keep in mind, however, that the review outcomes are not always positive for the applicant. Your application may be rejected, or your plan may be reduced. For this reason, it’s important to consider the strength of your arguments before requesting the review to ensure you get the best possible outcome.
How do I request a plan review?
If you feel confident to proceed, here are some ways you can request for a plan review:
- You can complete the Request for a Review of a Decision form and mail it directly to NDIS at the following address:
Chief Executive Officer
National Disability Insurance Agency
GPO Box 700
Canberra ACT 2601
- You can send an email requesting a review with all supporting evidence to enquiries@ndis.gov.au
- You can ask for a review over the phone by calling NDIS on 1800 800 110
- You can visit an NDIS or partner office and request a review in person
When requesting a review, be sure to provide NDIS with the following information to ensure the officer reviewing your request has all the facts to base their assessment on:
- What is the reason behind your request?
- What is your desired outcome?
- Is there any new evidence, for example, a new medical report, that you would like to be considered during the review?
- Is there any information you have already provided, and should it be reconsidered?
If you require help with your request, you can ask your support worker or Support Coordinator to assist you.
It may take up to 60 days from the day you have submitted your request to receive a decision. NDIS will provide you with the review outcome and the reasoning for it in writing.
