Makeup, but make it accessible: meet Kat and their support worker Cassie

26th October 2020

Have you ever thought about the accessibility of makeup? For Hireup user Kat, that's a thought they have every day. Makeup is their chosen art form and they're passionate about making it more accessible.

Kat’s passion for makeup comes from the idea that “it’s creating art on someone’s face. It allows people to develop their own sense of style and creativity,” says Kat.

“Making someone feel beautiful both inside and out can have such a large impact, both physically and mentally, and I want to make this accessible to everyone.”

Kat and their support worker Cassie have been working together since 2018. For Kat, “A good support worker is fully ready to be emerged into whatever role they’re needed in.”

“Making someone feel beautiful both inside and out can have such a large impact, both physically and mentally, and I want to make this accessible to everyone.”

Kat uses Hireup for out and about and therapy support. On bookings with Cassie, they usually do exercises and physiotherapy.

“Around the time I met Cassie [on Hireup], I was specifically searching for someone to help me with physiotherapy. Since working with her, I’ve become more comfortable with getting help and support in other areas,” says Kat.

Cassie is studying for a Master of Physiotherapy and says that “working with Kat and noticing the impact on their life [when] incorporating physiotherapy exercises into daily tasks has definitely furthered my love in this area of work.”

For Cassie, it’s Kat’s sense of humour and their ability to talk together as the reason the pair get along so well. “Put the two of us in a room and we can talk for hours,” Cassie laughs.
