Samantha’s Hireup Impact Grant fuels her journey to be a registered nurse

19th October 2023

Hireup support worker Samantha has been working in disability support for over 10 years, and the flame for her career still burns brightly. But there’s something Samantha has always wanted to do.

“I would love to achieve my dream of becoming a registered nurse,” she says. “I want to be able to continue the care I provide to my clients to a higher level.”

With this aspiration in mind, Samantha sent in her application for the Hireup Impact Grants, and in August she was announced as a recipient.

Hireup support worker Samantha is being presented a Impact Grants certificate by MLA Johnathan David and Hireup Co-CEO Jordan O'Reilly. They're in a garden.

This year’s Hireup Impact Grants program funded initiatives that contribute to an individuals professional development and in turn support their financial security into the future.

We wanted to support people with disability and support workers to invest in their education, employment and professional development. To do this we partnered with HESTA, who sponsored this year's support worker scholarships.

Samantha, who is the mother of two, and primary carer for her partner who has disability, is someone we believe has the passion and the commitment to achieve her ambition, and together with HESTA we're thrilled to support her on her journey.

“Employment as a registered nurse would give me more security to support myself and my family,” Samantha says. “I’d be able to support my children and partner without the stress of having to choose between work and supporting them.”

To celebrate Samantha being a 2023 Hireup Impact Grants recipient, she met with Hireup Co-CEO Jordan O’Reilly and MLA Johnathan Davis, who awarded Samantha a certificate for receiving the grant.

“I was put on this Earth to help people and I want to do that to the best of my ability,” Samantha says.

“I spend most of my time caring for my family, but I am Sam too! And to do something for me, I want to learn and I want to be a registered nurse.”
