Before booking a new support worker or supporting a new client, it is important to arrange a meet and greet to get to know one another and discuss the shift. A meet and greet is a 15 minute unpaid catch up between a client and a new support worker before a formal booking is made on the Hireup platform. You can organise a meet and greet through the Hireup messaging tool and exchange mobile numbers for easier communication following the meet and greet.
If possible, organise an in person meeting and be ready to discuss shift expectations, ask questions and get to know one another. In person meet and greets are highly recommended to determine if you’ll be a good fit for each other before committing to a booking or shift. An in person meeting may not be possible for everyone. If this is the case, organise a 15 minute video call or phone call and be sure to discuss support requirements and get to know each other in this chat.
Meet Tim and Sabrina, two Hireup veterans that know a thing or two about meet and greets
Unsure of what you should be talking about? Your meet and greet conversation may include the following:
- The type of support required or the type of support that you are able to provide. A good conversation starter for a client or account manager may be “would you be comfortable…?”
- Any expectations around ongoing availability or if ongoing support will be required. When is support required or when can you provide support?
- Outline your experience as a support worker or explain what you are looking for in a support worker in terms of their experience, personality or interests.
- Will the booking require transport support? If so the vehicle allowance must be enabled.
It’s important to clearly set expectations, ask questions and enjoy getting to know one another.
Organise the meet and greet at a public location and consider choosing a location that is convenient for both of you. Keep in mind that this informal catch up is unpaid so it’s best to try to keep it within 15 minutes. Think of it like a miniature job interview.
If the meet and greet takes much longer than anticipated, we ask that you put it in the Hireup system as a booking.
Good luck building your team of support workers. If you have any further questions around meet and greets and would like to chat to our team, please get in touch by calling 02 9113 5933 or email your questions to hello@hireup.com.au
