Hireup vs Mable: What are the differences for disability support in 2026?
The primary differences between the two platforms are their employment models, NDIS registration status, insurance coverage and the types of support available.
Hireup and Mable are both online platforms that connect NDIS participants with disability support workers. Hireup employs all support workers directly as a registered NDIS provider, making it accessible to participants across all plan management types — including NDIA-managed funding.
Mable operates as an online marketplace connecting participants with independent contractors, and is currently suited to self-managed and plan-managed participants.

How does pricing differ between Hireup and Mable?
Hireup offers all-inclusive, set hourly rates, meaning participants don't have to negotiate with their workers. Rates are fixed, SCHADS-compliant and always sit at or below the NDIS cap. This pricing model ensures safeguards are built into every booking. It also ensures Hireup support workers receive fair pay and superannuation contributions.
Mable uses a marketplace model where participants negotiate rates directly with their workers. However, the total cost must stay within the NDIS cap for that specific support item.

Do Hireup and Mable provide insurance and protections?
Hireup provides full workers compensation, professional indemnity, and public liability with every booking. And, because workers are employees, Hireup holds the primary legal liability for every shift, providing peace of mind for both participants and workers. Because of Hireup's pricing model, these are all included in the fixed hourly rate.
Mable provides occupational indemnity and public liability insurances, however, because workers are independent contractors, participants are also required to review the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to understand any state-based gaps in contractor liability.

Which plan types can use each platform?
Agency-managed (NDIA-managed) participants
If your plan is managed by the NDIA directly, you must use a registered NDIS provider. That means Hireup is your option — Mable is not currently available to agency-managed participants.
Plan-managed
participants
If you have a plan manager, you have more flexibility. Both Hireup and Mable are available to you. Your plan manager handles the payment side, so you don't need to worry about invoicing.
Self-managed
participants
Self-managed participants have the broadest choice — you can use either platform. Both platforms over choice and control over your support workers, with the main difference being that Hireup employs their support workers whereas Mable support workers are independent contractors.
What supports are available on Hireup vs Mable?
As a NDIS-registered provider, Hireup sets itself apart against many other online support platforms. Hireup workers can provide a full range of disability supports, including specialised supports for complex needs such as behaviour supports, manual handling, mental health supports, medication management, enteral feeding, and catheter and complex bowel care.
As independent contractors, support workers who use Mable are required to source qualifications in personal care, nursing and allied health first before they can perform these supports.
Both Hireup and Mable workers can provide community and domestic supports, as well as transport supports.
Registration status
Hireup has grown from a small startup to be one of Australia’s most impactful, for-purpose, NDIS-registered support platforms. Since it started in 2015, Hireup has been committed to NDIS registration and employing workers under the SCHADS Award so that it can support all NDIS participants, including people with NDIA-managed funding.
The 2027 -2030 mandatory registration rules have expanded to include providers who deliver personal care, daily living support and supports in closed settings.
- Hireup: As an NDIS-registered platform provider and direct employer of support workers, Hireup is held to a higher standard by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
- Mable: Mable is currently transitioning under the July 2027 mandate. In the new framework, they connect participants and independent contractors while providing only platform-level safeguards and insurance.

Important update: mandatory registration from 1 July 2026
The Australian Government has legislated that all platform providers — including Mable — must begin transitioning to mandatory NDIS registration from 1 July 2026, with full implementation by end of 2030. This means Mable will need to meet the same quality standards and worker screening requirements as registered providers like Hireup. How Mable's pricing and contractor model will change as a result is still being worked through.
