Where can I apply for a Home Care Package assessment?
If you're considering applying for a Home Care Package assessment, My Aged Care is the one-stop shop for accessing all government-funded aged care services in Australia.
There are several easy ways to get in touch with My Aged Care and start your application process:
- The online option is convenient as you can complete a simple application form directly through the My Aged Care website. You'll typically need your Medicare card handy to complete this process.
- If you're not comfortable with online forms, you can call the My Aged Care contact centre at 1800 200 422. This is a free call from Australian landlines and many mobile phones. The contact centre is open during business hours: Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm in your local time zone.
- If English isn't your first language, call the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) on 131 450 and ask them to connect you to My Aged Care.
- You can ask a trusted healthcare provider to make a referral on your behalf. Your doctor, hospital social worker, or another health professional can initiate the assessment process for you through My Aged Care. This can be particularly valuable if your healthcare provider is already familiar with your health conditions and care needs.
- For those who prefer face-to-face assistance or have more complex questions, there's also the option of speaking with an Aged Care Specialist Officer (ACSO). These knowledgeable professionals are available at selected Services Australia (Centrelink) service centres around the country. To book an appointment with an ACSO, you can call the Services Australia Aged Care line on 1800 227 475.
