What is the minimum age to be eligible for a Home Care Package?

While Home Care Packages are primarily designed based on your care needs rather than your age, some general age guidelines determine when you can access these services.

For most Australians, the minimum age to be eligible for a Home Care Package is 65. The minimum age requirement for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members is 50 years or older.

It's worth knowing that age isn't always the deciding factor

Care needs won't always wait until we reach a certain birthday. In some cases, younger people with significant care requirements may also qualify for Home Care Package support if they have specific needs that aren't properly addressed through other government programs like the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). There's also special consideration for people aged 50 or older (or 45 for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) who are experiencing financial hardship and housing insecurity.
