Overtime pay on Hireup

23rd February 2021

Did you know? All support workers on Hireup are entitled to overtime pay if overtime is worked on the platform.

Because all support worker wages align with the SCHADS industry award, minimum pay rates and conditions of employment are set in place. One of these conditions is paid overtime where overtime is worked.

If a casual support worker works in excess of 76 hours per fortnight, they’ll be paid at the rate of time and a half (the SCHADS award rate) for the first two hours and double time thereafter, on Mondays - Saturdays. On Sundays, such overtime will be paid at the rate of double time and on public holidays at the rate of double time and a half.

If a casual support worker works in excess of 10 hours per day, they’ll be paid at the rate of time and a half for the first two hours and double time thereafter, on Mondays - Saturdays. On Sundays, overtime will be paid for at the rate of double time, and on public holidays at the rate of double time and a half.

Hireup covers the cost of support worker overtime hours. There is no additional cost to clients. As an employer, Hireup has a responsibility to its employees to pay fairly and according to the legislation. Clients are not charged extra because a support worker working their shift goes into overtime rules.

Note: All overtime rates are calculated on the SCHADS award rate and not the Hireup base payment for support workers.

Overtime payment also includes casual loading (25%)

The safety of our community is paramount, so it’s crucial to ensure that any overtime hours worked are not ongoing. Where possible, alternate support workers should be booked to avoid putting yourself or the people you support at risk. Our service team monitors and checks in with support workers who are working a high number of hours.

It’s also important to remember that all bookings on Hireup are flexible. This means that if your shift runs over the designated time, you can add any changes once you’ve finished your shift.
