A guide to funding for Individualised Living Options (ILO)

Interested in finding out about funding for NDIS’s Individualised Living Options (ILO)?

There are different types and levels of ILO funding you can access to make your ideal independent living arrangement a reality.

ILO Stage 1 funding: Exploration and Design

Exploration and Design involves working with an ILO provider to identify your home and living aspirations and the support you might require to live in your home. You’ll work together with a provider to design a living arrangement based on your preferences and needs.

According to the latest NDIS price guide, Stage 1: Exploration and Design is priced at $100.14 per hour from your core funding. It is a stated support item and is often agency-managed. For remote areas, the hourly price limit for Exploration and Design is $140.19, and $150.21 for very remote areas.

At the end of Stage 1, you will have completed your ILO Service Proposal.

How Hireup can help

Exploration and Design is a funding type that will be added to your plan if the NDIS approves your Home and Living application.

Stage 1 funding levels

There are three levels of ILO funding that you can access, depending on the hours you have available for Exploration and Design.

Sometimes the NDIA gives you this money in your core budget, and other times they will tell you to use your existing core funding. For more information on these funding levels, view the full Stage 1 ILO funding table (DOCX).

ILO stage 2 funding: ILO Supports

In Stage 2: ILO Supports, the NDIA looks at your ILO Service Proposal to determine what reasonable and necessary supports they can fund. They allocate it through a support category called "Individualised Living Options".

Your Stage 2 ILO funding is a package of money that can be used flexibly to pay for what the NDIS calls “primary” and “supplementary” supports. These might include drop-in support workers, a housemate or host who helps you out with certain things, a neighbour or mentor, or friends and family members.

It can be managed by you, your family or a provider.

The ILO package includes resources for “monitoring and adjustment” as things change - for example, a housemate might decide to leave, or you might need to find a new house to lease.
