Planning and preparing ahead of time

In Australia, there's always a risk of natural disasters, especially when it comes to bushfire season in summer. So, it's important to be prepared and plan ahead.

If you're not sure where to start, Collaborating 4 Inclusion has put together a Person Centred Emergency Preparedness resource. This resource will help you to develop the right emergency plan for you. It covers topics, such as:

  • how you can identify your strengths and your support needs in everyday life,
  • understanding your level of preparedness, and your disaster risk (local hazards, getting emergency information, the role of emergency service agencies and government etc),
  • how to make a plan to manage your support needs during an emergency,
  • how to communicate that plan to the people in your support network.

Find information on how to prepare a personal emergency plan or Preparing for emergencies, Australian Red Cross.

Don’t forget to keep the information in your Support Plan on the platform up to date under “What essential safety support would you require in the event of a natural disaster?”  This ensures that all Support Workers who join your team have access to the information at all times including in preparation for your first booking together.

Emergency Plan

Hireup recommends that you print a copy of your emergency plan so that it is accessible  in the event that you or your support team cannot access the Hireup platform due to network issues or a lack of devices.
