Timeline of changes and key dates

As NDIS updates are ongoing, these dates may shift as we receive new information.
The Bill passed with 63 amendments – 30 made in the House of Representatives and another 33 in the Senate, covering everything from Scheme access to plan reviews, action against fraud and pricing.
- The phased rollout of Thriving Kids supports begins.
- Participant budgets for social, community participation and capacity building will be gradually reset as plans are renewed or reassessed.
- Plan rollover changes start: new plans will be created at reassessment and unspent funds won’t carry over.
- New assessment criteria begins for new entrants to the NDIS and will be progressively applied to current participants during their reassessment.
Participants start transitioning to the new framework planning.
- Mandatory registration begins for higher-risk providers (e.g., personal care), with all providers in scope registered by December 2030.
- A new enrolment system launches for most NDIS providers, with all relevant providers enrolled by December 2027.
- Access changes begin for new applicants and existing participants to be reassessed over 3 years.
- Thriving Kids services to be fully operational across Australia.
- New applicants under 8 with developmental delay and Autism with low-to-moderate needs to move to Thriving Kids supports.

NDIS Bill is passed
The ‘Securing the NDIS for Future Generations’ Bill has passed both the Senate and House of Representatives completing the parliamentary stages of the Bill, with Royal Assent the final step before it becomes law.
In total, 63 amendments were made to the legislation – 30 made in the House of Representatives and another 33 in the Senate. These changes cover a wide range of areas, including Scheme access, plan reviews, action against fraud and pricing.

The following NDIS projects are open for community feedback.
The government is putting $200 million over three years into helping community organisations run more inclusive activities. Sports clubs, arts groups, libraries, community gardens and volunteering groups. They want to learn how the fund should work.
- Who’s it for: People with disability including NDIS participants, disability representative organisations and community organisations.
- Closes: 31 August 2026
The government is asking whether a commissioning approach would improve the quality and sustainability of SIL supports.
It covers participant outcomes, whether services are safe and reliable, and whether providers can keep delivering.
- Who’s it for: Anyone who has a view on this topic, including participants, families, carers, providers, support workers and community groups.
- Closes: 31 October 2026
There is an opportunity to take part in paid online testing of the new support needs assessment before it rolls out in April 2027. Sessions run for approximately two hours, with a payment of $200 each. Your feedback will help shape the process and won't affect your plan, funding or eligibility.
- Who’s it for: NDIS participants aged 18+ and plan nominees. All eligibility requirements are listed on the opportunity page.
