The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. Before applying for NDIS funding, it’s important to check if you are eligible. You need to meet all of the below criteria to receive NDIS funding:
- Age: You must be aged between 7 and 65.
(If you are over the age of 65, you may be able to apply for NDIS and Aged Care. If you have a child under the age of 7 in your care, then you may be eligible for Early Childhood Early Intervention). - Residence: You must live in Australia and be an Australian citizen, permanent visa holder or protected special category visa holder. (If you do not meet this criteria, then you may be able to apply for a different type of funding).
- Support needs:
- You need support from another person because of a permanent and significant disability, and/or
- You use special equipment because of a permanent and significant disability and/or
- You need immediate support to reduce your future needs.
