Our Code of Conduct
Easy Read version

How to use this Code of Conduct

A Code of Conduct is a list of rules about how everyone should behave.

This is an Easy Read version of our Code of Conduct.

Hireup wrote this Code of Conduct. When you see the words ‘we’ or ‘us’, it means Hireup.

We wrote some important words in bold. We explain what these bold words mean. There is a list of these words on page 37.

You can ask for help to read this Code of Conduct. A friend, family member or support person may be able to help you.
What is this Code of Conduct about?

Our Code of Conduct talks about how to take part in our Hireup community in positive ways.

It also talks about the things all users must do when they take part in our Hireup community.

This Code of Conduct is for people who use our services, including:
- people with disability
- family members.

In this document, we call them Hireup users.

This Code of Conduct is for Account Managers.
An Account Manager is someone who looks after a Hireup user’s account.

This Code of Conduct is also for Hireup support team members.

Support team members are people who:
- provide supports or services to Hireup users
- help them reach their goals.

Support team members might include:
- another Hireup user
- a support worker.

A support worker is someone who helps people with daily activities so they can:
- live a full life

- do things on their own.
What are our principles?

Our Code of Conduct is based on some important ideas.
We call these principles.

Everything we do is based on our principles.
Our principles help guide our Hireup community.

This includes you.
We talk about each of our principles on the following pages.
Choice and control

We believe Hireup users should have choice and control over their supports and services.

All support team members must support Hireup users to choose what type of services they want.
Hireup users
Hireup users can choose:

- who they work with

when they work together

- how they will use their supports and services.

Hireup users can book their own services.
Hireup users can also make sure:

- they choose the right support team members

- their goals are clear.
But Hireup users must make sure they only give their support team members things to do that are:

- safe

- part of their job.
They shouldn’t ask their support team members to do things they:

- can’t do
- aren’t trained to do
- don’t want to do.

Hireup users must give their support team members all the information they need so they can do their job well.

They must build strong relationships with their support team members.

And they must treat their support team members with respect.

Hireup users must remember that their support team members are there to do a job.
They must tell their support team members if:

- something changes
- they must cancel an appointment.
Hireup support team members

Support team members must respect the decisions Hireup users make.
They must respect decisions made by:

- members of their family

- an Account Manager.

They must also respect the decisions people who work at Hireup make.

Support team members must understand what supports or services Hireup users need.

They must also provide services in a safe way.

Feedback is when you tell someone how things have been going.
Support team members must think about feedback they get from:

- Hireup users

- Account Managers.

They must remember what they learned from training when they provide services.
Individual support

Support team members must provide services that help Hireup users.

They must work with Hireup users to:
- understand their goals
- help them reach their goals.

Support team members should let the choices of Hireup users guide their work.

They should also build strong relationships with:
- Hireup users
- the people who support Hireup users.
Being professional

A Hireup user might need more than one support or service.

But support team members must only provide supports or services they know how to provide.

We gave all support team members information about what they need to do in their job.
They must only do this work.

Support team members must only do work we all agree they should do.

Support team members must follow our:
- rules
- policies.

A policy is a plan for how we should do things.
Policies are where rules come from.
This includes when they:

- connect with the Hireup community

- provide supports or services to Hireup users.

Support team members can contact us for more information about how to follow our:
- rules
- policies.
Health and wellbeing

Support team members must provide the best supports and services they can.

We know support team members might face challenges when they provide supports and services.

It’s important for them to take care of their wellbeing.

It’s also important for Hireup users to know that their support team members need to take care of their wellbeing too.
Dignity of risk

Everyone faces different risks.

Someone might face a risk because of their:
- age
- disability.

They might also face a risk because of:
- the supports and services they need
- where they get their supports and services.

We believe a person’s life is better when they can:
- choose what risks they take
- live with the choices they make.
We call this dignity of risk.

Hireup users are the best people to choose what risks to take so they can reach their goals.
They should decide:

- what supports and services they use

- when they get their supports and services

- their support team members.

Hireup users need to communicate clearly about:
- choices they make
- what risks they want to take.
Support team members must respect their:

- choices
- rights – rules for how you can expect other people to treat you.

Support team members must keep them safe.

But they have the right to say no if they don’t:
- feel safe
- think they can keep the Hireup user safe.

Hireup users must respect their support team member’s right to say no.
Working safely

We must all make sure we give supports and services that are safe for everyone.
This includes Hireup:
- users
- support team members.

Hireup users must make sure their support team members are safe when they give them supports and services.

And support team members must provide good supports and services that are safe for everyone.

They must make sure any equipment their support team members needs will work well.

And Hireup users must make sure there is nothing that could hurt:
- them
- their support team members.
Our Zero Tolerance policy

A Zero Tolerance policy means some things:
- are never ok
- must never happen.
We have a Zero Tolerance policy towards abuse.

Abuse is when someone:
- treats you badly
- hurts you.
Anyone can experience abuse.

We have a Zero Tolerance policy towards neglect.
Neglect is when someone doesn’t help you or care for you in the way they are supposed to.
Anyone can experience neglect.

We have a Zero Tolerance policy towards discrimination.
Discrimination is when someone treats you badly because of something about you that you can’t change.
Anyone can experience discrimination.

We have a Zero Tolerance policy towards bullying.
Bullying is when someone says or does something to make you feel bad over and over again.
Anyone can experience bullying.

We have a Zero Tolerance policy towards harassment.
Harassment is when someone treats you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable.
Anyone can experience harassment.

Everyone must help us prevent these things from happening by telling us about things you:
- experience
- see
- hear.

If you prevent something, you stop it from happening.

This includes if these things happen to Hireup:
- users
- support team members.

You must not hurt or scare:
- Hireup users
- Hireup support team members
- anyone in our Hireup community
Keeping information safe and private

Everyone must keep information about the people in our Hireup community:
- safe
- private.

This includes information about Hireup:
- users
- support team members.

You must not share information about people in our Hireup community without their consent.

When someone gives you consent, they say it’s okay for you to do something.

If you have an account at Hireup, you must not share your password with anyone.

You must not let anyone else use your Hireup account.

You must tell us if someone shares information about a person in the Hireup community without their consent.

This includes private or personal information about Hireup:
- support team members
- users.
Being inclusive

When something is inclusive, it means everyone can take part.
We want our Hireup community to be a place where everyone is treated:

- fairly
- equally
- with respect.

We must treat everyone in our Hireup community the same.

Support team members should make Hireup an inclusive place for people with disability.

They should also make our Hireup community an inclusive place for people:
- of all ages
- from different backgrounds
- with different beliefs.

Support team members should make Hireup an inclusive place for people who might have a criminal record.

And they should also make Hireup an inclusive place for LGBTQIA+ people.

LGBTQIA stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning, intersex, and asexual.

The ‘+’ is for people who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community but don’t talk about themselves using a word from this list.
Being honest
Hireup users must give us true information about:

- what supports and services they need

- bookings they make

- what supports or services they use.

Hireup support team members must only communicate with members of the Hireup community about our supports or services.

They must be honest when they communicate with the Hireup community.

And support team members must not put things on their Hireup profile that might upset other people in our community.
Reporting

If an incident happens, support team members must report it to us within 24 hours.
An incident is when:

- something bad happens

- someone gets badly hurt

- someone is at risk of getting hurt.
Support team members must work with us to fix:

- problems

- incidents

- complaints.

A complaint is when you tell someone about:
- something that has gone wrong
- a problem you want fixed.

Hireup support team members must also report restrictive practices.

Restrictive practices are actions that stop people from:
- moving
- doing what they want.
Positive communication

Communication is very important.

It helps us build strong relationships with people in the Hireup community.

When you communicate, you must be open and honest.

You must show respect.

You must listen to what other people have to say.

You must be open to different ideas.
You must communicate well with everyone, including:

- Hireup users

- Hireup support team members

- the Hireup community.
What other things should support team members do?
Follow our policies

We write our policies to help support team members understand how to do their job.

Our policies will help our Hireup community feel supported.

Support team members must follow all the policies that apply to them.

They can ask us for more information about our policies.
Following the NDIS Worker Code of Conduct

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a way to support people with disability around Australia.

The NDIS Code of Conduct protects people with disability who take part in the NDIS.

Support team members must follow the NDIS Code of Conduct.

We will support them to follow the NDIS Code of Conduct.

You can read the NDIS Code of Conduct on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission website.

Support team members in Victoria must also follow the Victorian Code of Conduct.
